Mosiah 9:

The record of Zeniff--- Zeniff anxious to possess the lands of his fathers, enters into an agreement with King Laban to possess the land of Lehi -Nephi. They move in, work hard, build houses, farms, grow crops, have herds of sheep and are prosperous. The Lamanites , however, because of their Idolatrous laziness sat back and let them build and clear and improve the land with the intent of just moving in and taking it over when ever they wanted it. After 12 years the Lamanites figured they had better take over now before Zeniff's people became too strong, too established, and too numerous to easily conquer. So they started a campaign to harrass, steal and plunder Zeniff's people, starting with the outlying farms and ranches. The conflicts continued until Zeniff's people remembered the Lord and then went out to battle. They stood and defeated the Lamanites with a much smaller army with casualties of 10 to 1.

Application: Sometimes We want something so badly we may forget the Lord and just do what we want. When we repent and remember the Lord he will uphold us.

Mosiah 10:

Chapter 10: Explains why the Lamanites hate the Nephites--(ie the traditions of their fathers) Zeniff being old, confers his kingdom on his son Noah.

Application: Am I prepared and watchful--placing my trust in the Lord and his power to protect my "kingdom" (my family)?DS at the wellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17902036959124957287noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6262011606121989363.post-17141183993744398232018-11-02T13:54:00.002-07:002022-07-22T10:05:59.002-07:00Mosiah 7-8MOSIAH 7-8

Mosiah 7:16 Strong men leave Zarahemla to try and find those who had left years earlier in search of the land of Lehi-Nephi. Tey finally find them and find them in bondage/servitude to the Lamanites. The people rejoice and believe thay will now be greed from the Laminaties. Their leader urges them to turn to the Lord, repenting and putting their trust and faith in Him that they will be delivered.

application: These people ended up in bondage because their leader Zeniff was so passionate to reclaim the land he did not seek the Lord's help. He trusted in his own "arm of flesh' in dealing with the Lamanite leader. Zeniff was naive and the Lamanites were skilled in cunning and deceit. So, seek the Lord in all decisions especially in major ones. Let the Lord guide us and not pursue our own personal agendas.

Mosiah 8 King Limhi has possession of 24 gold plates and a breast plate of brass and copper which were found with the plates by and expedition of his people. he desires to know if Ammon can read/translate them. Ammon explains that the gift of being a seer is the greatest gift a man can possess--and at this time it is King Mosiah who has been blessed with this gift. The king is excited for he feels a great mystery will be revealed. and he thnks God for proparing the breastplate/translators and he wonders at the marvelous works of the Lord. Then he makes his observations about mankind, that dispite the fact that the Lord stands ready to bless and fuide and is longsuffering still "the children of men.....will not seek wisdom, neither do they desire that she should rule over them!" "Yea, they are as a wild flock which fleeth from the shepherd, and scattereth and are driven--and are devoured bythe beasts of the forest. King Limhi also has kept records of his people which he delivers unto Ammon.

application: Am I a wild child--always wanting to go my own way --to run around sightseeing and shopping though life? Or will I seek wisdom and find out want God's plan for me is and seek that.DS at the wellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17902036959124957287noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6262011606121989363.post-38178762368914026482014-07-21T18:15:00.000-07:002014-07-21T18:15:55.309-07:00Mosiah 5 and 6Mosiah 5: Faith brings us to a knowledge of the infinite goodness of God and our glorious future in the eternities with Him. And that knowledge, born of faith, brings us overwhelming happiness and joy. We are admonished to be "steadfast and immoveable, always abounding in good works" that we may be sealed up to salvation and eternal life with Christ.
APPLICATION: Have I felt the joy of the gospel and experienced the gift of revelation? If not I must work to strengthen my faith for it is though faith that they are given.

Mosiah 6: Everyone has his name officially recorded on the records of the church as having entered into a covenant with Christ. Mosiah is made king, priests are appointed to teach and lead the people (wards made) Mosiah is a righteous man and king and there was no contentions among the people for 3 years.
APPLICATION: If given a position of power and authority (ie king) would I remain humble and continue to labor alongside my fellow men? Do I dream of or seek to move to a better neighborhood, bigger house, newer car in order to get involved with a "better class" of people? Or am I able to see each and all as a daughter or son of God no better or worse than myself?DS at the wellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17902036959124957287noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6262011606121989363.post-17356365816951182722014-07-10T07:30:00.002-07:002014-07-16T10:17:24.645-07:00Mosiah 2,3,&4Mosiah 2: King Benjamin addresses his people: A few of his main points- "when you are in the service of your fellow beings you are only in the service of your God" "If ye should serve Him (God) with all your whole souls yet ye would be unprofitable servants" "If ye keep his commandments he doth bless you and prosper you" "Beware lest there be contentions among you and ye list to obey the evil spirit" "Consider the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God, for behold they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual: and if they hold out to the end they are received...into a state of never ending happiness."
APPLICATION: Do I acknowledge God's hand in all of my life? Am I grateful and obedient?

Mosiah 3: King Benjamin continues: Jesus will come down and do many miracles and he will suffer temptations, pain, hunger, thirst and fatigue. Even after all the miracles many will still consider him just a man and will scourge and crucify him. But he will rise on the third day! He can now stand in righteous judgment and also his blood will atone for Adam's transgression and for those who have never heard the gospel or those who have ignorantly sinned (also children). Salvation comes to those who have knowingly sinned ONLY through repentance and faith in Christ. "there is no other way or name given". The natural man is an enemy to God. There will be a time when the gospel will spread though out every nation, kindred, tongue and people and then those words will stand as a testimony at the judgment day. Where the people will be judged by their works. Their own guilt is what separates them from God and creates their torment.
APPLICATION: Have I put off the natural man becoming like a child--submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all thing which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon me. Also if Christ was at my door today--would I shrink to invite him in...or would my heart soar with love and acceptance as I flew to the door to embrace him?

Mosiah 4: More of King Benjamin's address: The Lord provides all to us and we are mandated to give to the poor, sick, and widowed both temporally and spiritually. If we deny a petition we sin the sin of covetness. We must continually watch our thoughts, word, and deeds continuing in forth and enduring to the end for the ways and means to fall into sin are many. He gives advice on how to raise our children---Caring for them physically and teaching them to love one another and not to quarrel and fight. We can't judge others or justify ourselves in rejecting someone's plea for assistance for we are all beggars and all dependent on God.
APP:ICATION.: Do I turn my eyes from the poor or homeless? Do I justify myself in not giving because "they'll just buy drugs/alcohol/cigarettes? Only after Mormon had made his abridgement and had completed it did he discover these "small" plates of Nephi which he then translated in their entirety and preserved along with his abridgement of all the other records. He did so because the Lord commanded him specifically to include this record. They became the FIRST 143 pages of the Book of Mormon because after Joseph Smith had translated the first portion of Momon's abridgement, Martin Harris begged/insisted/badgered Joseph Smith to let him take the translation to show to his wife. Joseph Smith after being told no by the Lord a couple of times goes again to the Lord and gets qualified permission. Joseph lets Martin take the pages and subsequently the portion of the manuscript that Martin Harris takes is either lost or stolen. The Lord commands that the original translation NOT be retranslated because of the evil designs of men to alter/corrupt and challenge the authenticity of the manuscript if republished. The small plates give a parallel account of those same years and are focused on the more spiritual part of their journey and are substituted for the lost record.

Application: Sometimes we must obey the Lord even when his purposes are not clear. Do I seek, listen and then obey??? Or do I rationalize, weigh, balance and then proceed only if I think it is right? It is OK to study it out etc. but then one must return to the Lord for the confirmation that their decision is right BEFORE one acts upon it.

Mosiah 1: King Benjamin was a righteous king and he labored tirelessly until he established peace in all of his land. He educates his sons in the language of their fathers, their history and the prophesies regarding their people. He teaches them of this that they may be "men of understanding". It is the written record that keeps men civilized. He tells them (and us) to search the scriptures diligently and to keep the commandments of God. Benjamin is nearing the end of his life so he desires to speak to his people one last time. He calls his people together to give them a name and a blessing. He passes the records and sacred artifacts to his son Mosiah.

Application: Do I honor the name I have been given> Do I honor my parents? Do I honor the name of Christ which I took upon me at baptism. Do I honor the new name given me in the temple> Remember the George A Smith story where he sees his granfather in a vision/dream and his (namesake) grandfather asks him what he has done with his name. Elder Smith relates he was relieved and glad that he was able to report that he had never did anything to dishonor it. Will I endure to the end like King Benjamin living a righteous life of service?DS at the wellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17902036959124957287noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6262011606121989363.post-75608207806404969192012-08-12T12:21:00.003-07:002012-08-12T12:21:48.301-07:00Jarom, OmniJarom is the son of Enos, he passes the plates on without adding his spiritual experiences because he feels they are so similar to what has already been written and the plates are small and he states "what more could I write than my fathers have written?" But he does give a synopsis of Nephi's story up to his present day (238 years) He states much of it has been spent in wars, contentions and dissensions. Jarom states the intent of the law of Moses was to persuade the people "to look forward unto the Messiah and believe in him to come as though he already was"

Application: How do I imagine l'lI live my life differently during the millenium--ie doing genealogy, attending the temple, increased sisterhood, increased service, enjoying nature.--can I live this way now?

Omni is the son of Jarom. He is a soldier who adds his name to the plates for the sole purpose of fulfilingl his father's comandment to keep the plates. He then passes the plates to his son Amaron. Amaron states that the more wicked Nephites have been killed or taken captive by their enemies fulfilling the prophecy that warns "Inasmuch as you will not keep my commandments, ye shall not prosper in the land. This warning--that this is a promised land, preserved and blessed by the Lord for the use of the righteous--is frequently emphasized in the Book of Mormon. Amaron passes the plates to his brother Chemish. Chemish adds his testimony of his brother and passes the plates to Abinadom his son. Abinadom is a soldier who records his name and passes it onto his son Amaleki. Amaleki records the story of one King Mosiah who being warned to flee out of the land, takes those people who will join him and leaves the land of Nephi. They are led by the Lord to the land of Zarahemla where they meet a another group of people who had been led out of Jerusalem by the Lord as Lehi had. However, they had brought no records with them and their language had become corrupted. They rejoiced when they learned of the records that King Mosiah had. Mosiah unites with this people and becomes their king. A large stone with engravings is brought to Mosiah for him to translate. It is the record of Coriantumr and his fathers who came out of Jerusalem at the time of the tower of Babel. Amaleki lived during the days of Mosiah and knows and admires King Mosiah and his son Benjamin. Since he himself has no son to pass the plates to he gives them to King Benjamin. He closes his writings by asking all to believe in prophesy, revelations and the ministering of angels. the gift of tougues the the interpretation of languages and in all things that are good. We should continue in fasting and prayer and endure to the end so we can be saved. He recounts how several groups have gone into the wilderness to try and find and reclaim the Land of Nephi. One who left was his brother who he has not seen since.

Application: When the history/genealogy of my line is written will I just be a name added or will I have my righteousness or counsel etc recorded for the benefit of my posterity.? Am I keeping a journal, recording the goodness and blessings of the Lord?DS at the wellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17902036959124957287noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6262011606121989363.post-79996682209603638682012-08-11T17:32:00.001-07:002012-08-11T17:36:20.724-07:00Enos 1Enos writes of his "wrestle" before God to have his calling and election made sure

He remembered (pondered) all the words and testimonies he had read and heard

He desired (hungered) to know for himself about eternal life

He went to the Lord in mighty prayer-continuing all day.

He recieved a remission of his sins through Christ.

He recieved a great love and desire towards his brethern and then even his enemies the Lamanites.

Because of all he recieved in this experience, he had a perfect faith in the Lord and His power to answer prayer

Enos continues righteously and becomes a prophet--teaching and testifying

He endured to the end

The tendency of the rest of us is a quick decline into sin and destruction if we are not continually "stirred up" to a rememberence of the Lord. Enos tells of the joy he will have when he dies and will see His Lord. His testimony reminds me of Elder Bruce R McConkie's testimony.

Application: How sweet to gain a truly personal relationship with the Lord. Am I willing to do what I need to do to secure my own calling and election?DS at the wellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17902036959124957287noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6262011606121989363.post-89467097678876682422012-08-09T09:20:00.001-07:002012-08-09T09:20:48.792-07:00Jacob 7Jacob 7
An antichrist named Sherem seeks to destroy the Nephites belief in Christ. He is educated, charismatic and quite a talker! He is having significant success and his pride and ambition lead him to frequently and consistently try to obtain a meeting with Jacob. He believes in Satan's support and power and believes he can shake Jacob's testimony and feels if he "converts" Jacob he will then have power over all the people. Finally they meet and Sherem greets Jacob as "Brother Jacob" but despite his smooth talking, Jacob is able to confound Sherem in all of his words and arguments. Sherem finally insists that Jacob "PROVE IT!" by giving him a sign. Jacob refuses but when presses tell him the if you want to continue to seek a sign and if God smites you then so be it. Sherem is struck down and falls to the ground, and after being cared for for many days, he knows he is about to die and he recants his previous teachings and further he testifies of Christ. All who hear him are very moved and the Spirit of God moves upon them and they all repent. The Lamanites reject any attempts to reconcile and accept the gospel. So preparations to protect the people against a war are made. Enos is given the plates by his father Jacob, and Jacob, who is nearing the end of his life, bids farewell.

Application: We must hold to the rod and to the prophets that "ye be not decieved". (verse 25) Do all you can and trust God and you will come out conquerors in the end. DS at the wellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17902036959124957287noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6262011606121989363.post-13392512347651517602012-08-08T08:25:00.000-07:002012-08-08T08:32:22.066-07:00Jacob 4-6Jacob 4: Jacob writes upon the plates so that his posterity may know that; he knew of Christ, that the law of Moses points to Christ, that through the atonement of Christ, the only Begotten son we may obtain a resurrection and with faint ontain a glory and the prophets testify of Christ. We have weaknesses so that God can show His grace. Verse 10 is one of my favorites: "Seek not to counsel the Lord but to accept counse from his hand. For ye yourselves know that He counseleth in wisdom and in justice, and in great mercy, over all His works." Jacob teaches of Christ's Atonement and resurrection. The Spirit always speaks the truth. We are warned agaist "looking beyound the mark" (seeking things we can not understand).

Application: Do I keep my heart and mind open the the Lord's will or do I want/insist on things being "my" way? Also, I should always focus on perfecting the basics and gaining knowledge of Jesus Christ rather than seeking to know the mysteries of God.

Jacob 5: Jacob quotes from the prophet Zenos' writings (brass plates). He tells the allegory of the tame and wild olive trees (Israel and the Gentiles) This chapter is a great overview of the Lord's dealings with Israel and his chosen people. He reveals the falling away, the restoration of the Gospel, the final gathering of Israel in the last days, and the end/burning of the vineyard(earth).

Application: Am I diligent in "digging, pruning, and dunging" my small portion of the vineyard? Do I nourish and instruct my family? Do I try to bring my neighbors to a knowledge of Christ that they may become "tame" and that the fruits of their lives be sweet?

Jacob 6: Jacob adds his testimony to Zenos' He testifies of the truthfulness of the prophesies concerning the House of Israel. He implores his peopleto soften their hearts and come unto Christ. He speaks of the Lof of Christ's mercy but the reality of the law of justice. Choose life and Christ or choose shame, guilt and death!

He says that his visions and prophesizing comes because of great anxiety and of faith. After Nephi’s death the people began to stray from the gospel, seeking silver and gold, and desiring to have many wives. Jacob took upon him an oath that if he did not teach the people than their sins would be upon him.

Application: Have I taught my children sufficiently that they will answer for their own sins, or will their sins and failings fall upon my head? Do I seek answers and guidance with great faith and anxiety as Jacob did?

Jacob 2: Jacob speaks to the people at the temple to convey the word of the Lord against their sins. The first topic was the sin of Pride and seeking riches which leads to selfishness, not sharing and looking down on those who are not as rich as they. Seek God first then riches will be added if you seek them for the purpose of assisting the poor and needy. The second sin was that of men justifying their infidelities because David and Solomon had many wives and concubines. The Lord condemns such conduct. A man should have only one wife unless the Lord commands otherwise--which he might do to “raise up a people” and in any case, the Lord never approves of concubines.

Applications: Do I fix my eyes on the things of the world—seeking riches and being full of pride? Only those who repent and believe in Christ are saved regardless of how we started. Nephi prophesizes of conditions during the millennium.-- God’s power will be over all the earth, all creatures will live in peace, Satan will have no power during the millennium, and all things will be made known.

Application: Remember that being pure in heart and righteous is what will bind Satan. The philosophy of "eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we die—but God will forgive us and save us anyway" prevails. Churches have gone astray because of pride, false teachers and false doctrine and many call good evil and evil good. Babylon must fall in a great way in order to shake those that belong to it into repentance. The Lord will be merciful –his arms are outstretched still. Wo unto all those who are at ease in Zion; who hearken unto the precepts of men; who deny new revelation; who tremble and fear; who are angry with God’s plan; who puts his faith in the arm of man. Portions are sealed which reveal all things from the foundation of the earth unto the end, but the time will come when the sealed portions will be revealed and widely distributed. But for now, they are sealed up in God’s wisdom. His works are revealed according to the faith of his children. The Lord states that people fear him because of the precepts of men. He says that honest truth seekers will come to an understanding even if they erred in the past. The Lord testifies of himself by bringing about great and marvelous works from seemingly impossible circumstances--for example, the translation of the Book of Mormon and the establishment of His church by an uneducated, poor farm boy.

Application: 1) Do I use and study the revealed scriptures daily and do my part so that the Lord will deem his people worthy to receive more knowledge? 2) Do I have the faith that my Father can bring to pass great miracles in my own life and family? Nephi deliberately did not teach his children about Jerusalem and the Jews—because of their (the Jew’s) sins and wickedness. Isaiah’s words were written for the last days. Before destroying any peoples, the Lord will warn and give opportunity to repent. Nephi’s words plainly prophesize of Christ. The Lord will proceed to do a marvelous work and a wonder to restore his people. V. 26 is a moving and beautiful verse—“We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ and we write according to our prophecies that our children may know to what source they may look for the remission of their sins.” Nephi speaks so plainly that he cannot be misunderstood and his words will stand as a testament.

Application: Do I speak, talk, and write of Christ so plainly that my children cannot misunderstand? Nephi shares his joy in the Lord and in God’s plan for his children and this earth.

Application: The Lord has sent many firsthand witnesses of Himself to testify to us. Do I accept, ponder and share what I know to be true. If I do the Lord will bless me with greater knowledge--“line upon line” until I too will be blessed to see Christ and have my calling and election made sure as did Nephi and Jacob. And the great goodness of our God who has prepared this plan/way so that we can escape death (of the body) and Hell (death of the spirit) through the atonement of Christ is celebrated. When the body and spirit reunite we will have a perfect knowledge of all our guilt and/or of all our righteousness. After resurrection/being made immortal we will appear before Judgment seat of God to be judged, and they who are righteous will be righteous still and they who are filthy shall be filthy still and subjects of the devil. We must have faith in Christ, repent, be baptized and endure the crosses of the world (and to the end) to be saved. Those who are without the law (children, mentally handicapped etc) are delivered by the power of the atonement which “satisfieth the demands of his justice”. Worldly knowledge is vanity and foolishness if one does not hearken unto the Lord. Wo is pronounced upon a variety of sins and sinners. “To be carnally minded is death and to be spiritually minded is life eternal”. Jacob entreats all to shake off the chains of sin and of Satan and come unto God, to pray continually, give thanks and rejoice. “Come, my brethren, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters”

Application: This chapter is so important in understanding the plan of salvation. He states he speaks to them of things which are and which are to come. He wants to teach from Isaiah’s writings and asks that we liken them unto ourselves for they were written unto the house of Israel and WE are of the House of Israel. He again states that the gospel will be brought to the Gentiles who shall set up a standard. Jacob also prophesizes about the destruction and scattering of Jerusalem. He tells of Christ’s coming and His crucifixion. He prophesizes about the gathering of the ten tribes (Israel) and the second coming of Christ is foretold. All flesh shall KNOW that “I the Lord am thy Savior and thy Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.”

Application: Do I have to see (or wait until I am destroyed by) earthquakes, tempests and the great destructions prophesized before I accept and acknowledge Christ, the King of Heaven and Earth? It is our sins that separate us from Him. The Lord stands ready to bless us, to fight by our sides and to be smitten for us. If we but “kindle” a fire, we shall walk in light.

Application: If I feel despair and lack of hope it is because I have separated myself from Christ. The kingdom and power of man is temporary. The Kingdom of God is eternal. Wake UP! The Lord is in charge and is all powerful. We SHALL return singing to Zion “and everlasting joy and holiness shall be upon (our) heads; and (we) shall obtain gladness and joy; sorrow and mourning shall flee away”. The waste places and deserts shall become gardens. The prophesy of the two prophets coming to Jerusalem is in this chapter.

Application: Do I lean and depend on the arm of flesh? He prays and comforts himself by reading the scriptures and by remembering past spiritual experiences and recording his thoughts. He entreats the Lord to help him. He covenants to always trust in and praise the Lord.

Application: When we study this chapter we can enumerate many of the signs of depression: fatigue, weight loss, self loathing, crying etc. If we can recognize that Nephi is a good and righteous man and still was subject to this disease, then perhaps we can be less judgmental of ourselves and accept that this is a chemical imbalance and not something that has occurred because we were “bad” or “unworthy”. We also need to do as Nephi did and turn to the Lord, to the scriptures, and to journaling for help in overcoming the depression. (We should also seek professional assistance to correct the chemical imbalance when indicated).

II Nephi 5: With the death of Lehi, who was I’m sure a “buffer” between Nephi and his older brothers, Laman and Lemuel again seek Nephi’s life. Nephi and all those who have aligned themselves with Nephi and the Lord are forced to flee and separate themselves from Laman and Lemuel and their followers. The “Nephites” prosper by farming and building etc. The Lamanites become “cursed” with darkened skin as they become hunter scavengers. In order to preserve his people and their culture/religion/identity, Nephi kept the brass plates, the Liahona, and Laban’s sword. (Items which over the years/centuries the Lamanites feel were ‘stolen’ from them, and use as an excuse to continue the war/feud with the Nephites) (Remember however, that the Liahona worked only as the people were righteous and that the brass plates only had worth as they pertained to the genealogy of the people and their desire to live the commandments delineated therein. It was Nephi himself who had the faith and courage to go back for the brass plates and obtain them and through his actions he alone also obtained Laban’s sword. So the tradition that these items belonged to Laman and Lemuel and their posterity is flawed).

Application: Do I separate myself from evil or do I like to stay around the edges---flirting with and even accepting (at times) some of the world’s ungodly practices and lifestyles?. Do I count the scriptures and my testimony as treasures to take with me at all times?DS at the wellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17902036959124957287noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6262011606121989363.post-24156882353919328572009-02-17T14:53:00.000-08:002009-02-17T15:00:00.730-08:00II Nephi 1-2II Nephi 1: This land (the Americas) is a choice land reserved for an inheritance for the righteous. It will be a blessed land--prosperous and free, as long as the inhabitants serve the Lord. But, if iniquity abounds, the land will be cursed and there will be no promise. Lehi is close to death and he speaks to his sons and people. He begs his sons to “Awake and arise from the dust my sons and be men, and be determined in one mind and in one heart, united in all things. . . Awake my sons; put on the armor of righteousness. Shake off the chains with which ye are bound, and come forth out of obscurity and arise from the dust. Rebel no more . . .”

Application: This is also my plea to my own sons (and all sons everywhere). If you read this someday--- Shake off the chains which bind you--alcohol, drugs, materialism, pride, anger, feelings of unworthiness. The Lord loves you,-- you are choice spirits saved for these latter days--sent to a country and a home where the Gospel was available to you. I know it wasn’t and isn’t a perfect home and family but you can rise above our imperfections and pull yourselves up and Stand Tall. BE MEN--men of righteousness--men of God!

II Nephi 2: Jacob receives his final “Father’s blessing and teachings. Jacob is a righteous man and son, he has had his ‘calling and election made sure’. He has seen the Lord face to face. Lehi also states that all “men are instructed sufficiently that they know good from evil” (the light of Christ) so that they can justly be judged by the law. Redemption is only possible through Christ’s atonement and resurrection. There is "opposition in all things" and Lehi expounds on this great principle. For a man to be free to act for himself, and, for there to be a choice,---there must me an enticement or opposition to each decision. Satan became part of the plan by providing the enticement which is in opposition to the Lord's commands and plan. This life is a time of probation and repentance. If Eve had not partaken of the fruit there would have been no change or growth, no children, no joy (for they knew no misery), and no good (for they knew no sin). It was God’s plan that by that act of disobedience--this probationary period of earth life and opposition would be introduced. “Adam fell that men might be and men are that they might have joy!” men are free to chose liberty and eternal life through Christ the Lord or to choose captivity and death according to the power of the devil.

Application: Do I act or am I acted upon? Do I CHOOSE my path or just allow each day to slip away--No choice=no action=no valiancy=no glory. Also, I have thought about what went on in the Garden of Eden, the tree, the command, ultimately the choice. I truly believe that the tree was placed because God will never force us to do things, even for our “own good” It had to be a choice. Also we have heard that “no unclean thing can enter into heaven” Conversely, perhaps “no clean thing can be kept out of heaven” Adam and Eve prior to the partaking of the fruit in opposition to God’s command were clean and pure and walked and talked with God and Christ in the garden. But that small act of disobedience set in motion the entire plan of salvation. A necessary step for all of us to be able to progress, grow and ultimately return again to that Father who sent us forth into this earthly experience.DS at the wellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17902036959124957287noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6262011606121989363.post-84505013940512528612009-02-16T08:07:00.000-08:002009-02-16T08:09:22.231-08:001 Nephi 221 Nephi 22: This chapter is partially an interpretation of chapter 21. A marvelous work and a wonder to be brought forth to bless the Gentiles, the Jews, (House of Israel) and all kindreds, tongues and peoples of the world. The Book of Mormon was first brought to the Gentiles, then the Lamanites and now to all nations. The second coming is close. All those who fight against Zion will turn and war against themselves. Nephi prophesizes about the second coming and the millennium. Satan is bound- not by some miraculous imprisonment- but by the righteousness of the people. Any and everyone can be saved if they repent.

Application: Could I bind Satan in my own life by living righteously? Could I and my family “bind Satan” and cast him out of our lives and homes by living righteously? Do I honor the Book of Mormon for the marvelous work and a wonder that it is or do I take it for granted?DS at the wellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17902036959124957287noreply@blogger.com1
